On Tuesday, July 30th, a federal judge was asked to intervene with the Trump administration’s immigration tactics that have caused more than 900 kids to be separated from their families.
In 2018, DHS chief McAleenan ordered the zero tolerance to prohibit the current administration from separating children without extenuating circumstances.
The ACLU cited information given in the court case that stated the basis of separation between these families were because of “minor criminal history, highly dubious allegations of unfitness, and errors in identifying bona fide parent-child relationships.”
But politics aside, there are ways you can help!
How to help immigrant children
- The Florence Project– provides free legal and social services to detained adults and unaccompanied children facing immigration removal proceedings in Arizona.
- KIND Kids In Need of Defense– ensures that no child appears in immigration court without high-quality legal representation.
- The Young Center, a champion for the rights and best interests of unaccompanied immigrant children, making sure that wherever they land, whether here in the U.S. or in their home country, they are safe.
