Alicia Keys is setting the foundation for a hopeful new trend #NoMakeup that focuses on embracing women’s bare beauty. Women are being challenged to no longer pack on the makeup, but to feel absolutely confident in their skin.
In a recent publication on LennyLetter Keys wrote, “It’s another moment where some piece of you realizes that to fit in or be thought of as beautiful, you have to cover up to be a bit closer to perfect.”
In today’s society, millions of women are watching videos online that teach the hottest trend in beauty, contouring. It’s an application of makeup that involves using many shades of foundation to accentuate areas of a woman’s face.
For me, it wasn’t until recently that my best friend asked to do my makeup and she contoured my face. HAHA, I loved it though! So I’ve tried to practice but I’m not good at it. 🙂
Keys took a stand for all women to appreciate and love the skin they’re in and to do so by not wearing any makeup. She continued, “Before I started my new album, I wrote a list of all the things that I was sick of. And one was how much women are brainwashed into feeling like we have to be skinny, or sexy, or desirable, or perfect. One of the many things I was tired of was the constant judgment of women. The constant stereotyping through every medium that makes us feel like being a normal size is not normal, and heaven forbid if you’re plus-size. Or the constant message that being sexy means being naked.”
Her newest release, the Latin-infused single “In Common” has been getting tremendous praise in music. You can find it in just about every trending list on Spotify.
The “Fallen” singer talks about the image used on Instagram to promote “In Common”. Â The natural look theme for this song came randomly when photographer Paola Kudacki stopped Ms. Keys on her way home from the gym and asked to ‘shoot her’.
On Lenny Alicia Keys writes, “And I swear it is the strongest, most empowered, most free, and most honestly beautiful that I have ever felt.”
I’m with her on this challenge! I love my natural skin, with some moisturizer 🙂 and it’s the summertime too! It’s too hot to put loads of foundation on anyway! Fall in love with yourself naturally!
